A Call to Release Trauma and Aim Higher

How a remote chiropractor trauma and emotional release as the essential first step to getting unstuck, aligning to your purpose, and reconnecting to life.


Initially, the impulse to heal comes from pain. We have physical pain, our gut is all messed up, we feel stuck, we’re tied up in old limiting beliefs, etc… Bound trauma, subconscious limiting beliefs, and undigested emotions all drain our energy and leave us feeling disconnected.


Wonderful! That’s the first noble truth, the truth of suffering. That’s the slap in the face that got the Buddha to do his thing, which turned out pretty well. For him and for all of humanity.


But it can’t end there. While the thorn gets us moving, it’s the rose that draws us forward.


Motivation stemming from what we don’t want can only take us so far. Because it’s not a compelling, effective, or happy way of living to constantly be fighting against something.


How compelling is that friend of yours who’s constantly complaining of this or that political, social, or environmental thing? Sure, they’re informed. But are they living beautifully?


How effective is the war on drugs? The war on cancer?The war on parts of ourselves that we don’t like? The fight against ____ thing in your life? The struggle is interminable. It doesn’t work.


If we want to have the healthiest lives (in every sense), we need to release trauma, acknowledge subconscious limiting beliefs, feel the stuckness, then choose to be for something.


We need a why.


The bigger the why, the better.


Why?


Finding Your High Aim


Here’s a compelling way to look at it. The origin of the word sin isn’t doing something wrong, but rather missing the mark. It’s an archery term. Fascinating, right? Our why is our mark, it’s our aim. Author and speaker Jordan Peterson takes it one step further. He has characterized the divine as the “meta-ambition” towards which all lesser ambitions are directed. Our aspiration for God can be thought of as the highest possible aim.


Woah, did a remote chiropractor just bring the divine into holistic healthcare? You’re darn right I did. I’m not pointing to any specific characterization of the divine, or any specific aim. That’s yours to define. The point is, if you’re not aiming, you’re definitely missing the mark. And if you’re not aiming high, then you’re selling yourself short. So why let old trauma and subconscious limiting beliefs keep you stuck playing small?


Aiming low is a bad deal. For you, for your community, and for the world. You, we, every single person has huge gifts to give. And unless you’re connected to your aspiration then your energy will get dried up in lesser motivations, petty drains, and humdrums of the day to day. You and I both know the feeling. A whole day drained of life by things that really aren’t that important.


If you’ve forgotten the feeling, just ask TikTok, Facebook, the news, your boss, your Netflix subscription, or traffic.


So what’s the alternative? As Iyengar, one of greatest yoga teachers of the 20th century says, aim high.


"Do not aim low, you will miss the mark. Aim high and you will be on a threshold of bliss.” - B.K.S. Iyengar



Iyengar had a sickly childhood but chose to aim high. He not only achieved health but transformed the lives of millions of people across the globe. His legacy continues to this day. That’s a good deal.


High aim is what fuels the incredible success of AA and it’s sister organizations. It’s what allowed Ghandi to alter the course of history. It’s what allowed Peace Pilgrim to shift a notional conversation just by walking. It’s behind miracles the world over - people don’t heal by staying the same. They become new, better people who simply aren’t sick like the old versions of them.


So how do we actually put this into action?


Your pain point is a call to adventure.


Aiming high sets our whole life in alignment with a higher purpose. It elevates your daily work from a chore into a quest. And in this world oversaturated with information and starving for meaning, there is something in all of us (particularly young men) who are yearning for a real quest.


People are compelled by the genuine quest. It doesn't matter the direction as much as the commitment. - Dr. Jordan B. Peterson, from his interview on The Huberman Lab


The mythology of the quest is something that is greater than ourselves. Otherwise we’d just be running errands.


Errands don’t shape who you are as a human. Quests do. Who we are when we start the quest doesn’t have what it takes to complete the quest. We’re transformed in the seeking. And we don’t have to do it alone - because as Paulo Coelho famously refrains, “when you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it.”


So the question is, what do you really really really want?


Here’s to your hero’s journey.


Whatever pain point you have in your life, it is an invitation to step into a greater version of yourself. When you align to something greater and then take concrete steps towards that goal then this becomes a concrete process of self-actualization, not some lofty philosophy.
